Example of Megalithic art found at Lismullin
It's the NRA way
or the Highway

Archaeologists working on the route of the M3 at Tara, have found a decorated stone which they believe is as old as Newgrange.

That's about 5,000 years old.

And it is taking the NRA, the fine model of inefficiency, just a few months to destroy the area in which it has been found.

It may seem to be quiet, but dedicated people, people who care about Ireland rather than business, are beavering away, trying to save the valley from bulldozers and a minister who says he can't do anything.

The Greens have been reduced by their Fianna Fáil masters to gesture politics.

Still the EU is taking Ireland to the European Court of Justice because of their ongoing breaches of various environmental directives in particularly in relation to Environmental Impact Statements.

EU Environment Commissioner Stavros Dimas said in a recent press release: "I am disappointed that Ireland has not accepted the Commission view that improvements are needed in its legislation on impact assessments in order to better safeguard, and give the public more say in decisions affecting, its rich archaeological heritage, and to better guarantee that industrial projects will be comprehensively assessed".

He expressed surprise that Ireland was allowing the Tara work to continue.

The NRA wants to build the M4 through County Meath and then an orbital motorway circling Dublin. That would bring to five the number of motorways passing through the county. Meath councillors will no doubt, greet the proposals with enthusiasm.

That's their form. If business wants it, business gets it and hang the consequences. You only have to drive through the county to see how much they care for history and heritage.

Thank God that history, at least, will record their ignorance.
