Ruining our countryside
Sir - Having spent my recent holiday in Longford, (I come
to Ireland every year), I enjoyed the Irish people,
customs, rural scenery and places of beauty.
This year, however, I was appalled and dismayed at the
rape of your beautiful rural countryside. Everywhere one
drives houses are being erected by the hundred. Trees
have been felled to make way for these dreadful
buildings. Your countryside is your heritage; please
don't let this continue or all you'll have left is
concrete jungles as we have in Britain. No doubt in some
areas this is considered progress - how sad.
