Northern View of Tara
Madam, - We are deeply concerned that the M3 project is
being pursued without regard to the permanent damage that
will be suffered by the rich archaeology in the
landscape.
Societies like ours in Northern Ireland interested in the
preservation of our heritage feel they have been excluded
from any consultation about this important decision. The
Hill of Tara and its integrated landscape is the most
important historical site in Ireland with remains that
predate the Egyptian Pyramids.
The building of a four-lane motorway and a 26-acre
roundabout only 1.2 km from the Hill of Tara is an act of
unnecessary desecration. Generations to come will view
the decision to route the M3 through this landscape with
anger and dismay.
- Yours, etc,
LJ HULME,
Hon. Secretary,
Carrickfergus and District Historical Society,
Carrickfergus,
Co. Antrim.
