Point of Save Tara march
missed
Dear sir - The whole ethos of the Save Tara Awareness
March seemed to elude your reporter John Donohoe in his
article in last week's Meath Chronicle.
Determined as he was to focus on trivia and inaccuracies
instead of the real issues, Mr. Donohoe failed to hear
even the chant of the marchers with clarity. "Save Tara,
MOVE the road" was the cry, not "stop the road" as he
misquoted. There is a big difference!
Had he not stayed anonymously on the side-lines during
the March and instead taken the time to talk to the
participants and to listen to the excellent speakers, we
may have had a report worth reading: one which would have
explored the real issues involved.
Perhaps Mr. Donohoe is not one of those stressed
commuters who will be penalised if the M3 with its two
tolls goes ahead. Those who will be required to throw
hard earned cash into the toll booths four times daily,
purely for the privilege of sitting in the same old
traffic jams, may not take such a frivolous view!
The aim of the march was to create awareness throughout
Ireland and internationally that the Tara Skryne Valley
will be needlessly destroyed by the proposed M3, despite
the fact that viable alternatives do exist, like an
integrated transport system such as the Meath
Multi-way.
The strong media presence in Navan that day and the
extensive publicity that has been created around the
march has spawned and refuelled serious public concerns
about the destruction of the Tara Skryne Valley.
In contrast to the impression that the article attempted
to convey, there was in fact a powerful and passionate
energy generated at the March in Navan, the effects of
which are continuing to inform and alert people as to the
reality of the situation. We would like to thank the
people of Navan for their ongoing generosity and positive
support.
Once again, the feedback we received that day was that
many people do not want to see the Tara Skryne Valley
needlessly destroyed and believe that all viable
alternatives should be explored for the benefit of all if
this national tragedy is to be averted.
Yours,
ROSALEEN ALLEN,
