Respect for our own culture is
paramount
In January 2007 the M3 became a reality and the
bulldozers went in to the TaraSkryne valley. Horrified at
what was happening to sites of immense historical,
spiritual and mythological importance many concerned
people approached our politicians to have a rethink or at
least have a relook at the neglected options but to no
avail. I sent files and photos to all our politicians,
media and celebrities and I personally handed them to
people as diverse as Gerry Adams, the Irish Bishops
Conference and Dana. To no avail. Our history was
bulldozed away.
Now as we approach the new year and a new EU referendum
we hear from these same people about how we have to be an
example, about how we have to show respect to the
cultures of others and about how we all have to arise and
meet the challenges of global warming; this just after
rubbing the ruins of our own culture, environment and
duty off their shoes.
My wish for 2008 is that we listen very carefully to what
these detached elite have to say and then do the
opposite.
