Tara doesn't need Bono the
Builder
Bono is the last person who should be asked to get
involved in the campaign to save Tara.
The U2 frontman has proved himself an enthusiastic
developer with a scant regard for heritage in his efforts
to demolish a large chunk of historic Dublin surrounding
the Clarence Hotel and replace it with a mega-hotel
surmounted by the Starship Enterprise.
Bono the Builder is keen to replace several hundred years
of heritage on the docks with a huge development of
generic glass towers that will make that part of historic
Dublin indistinguishable from any other characterless,
modern city in the world.
It never ceases to surprise me that people think the
Killiney millionaire is some sort of anti-establishment
rebel.
It is obvious that this friend of Clinton, Blair and Bush
is perfectly at ease with the capitalist system.
In fairness to Bono, I don't think he has ever claimed to
be anything else.
