Making sense of cents

According to Foreign Affairs Minister Dermot Ahern (April 5th.), there is not a "red cent in the Exchequer" for the proposed northeast hospital.

The hospital, possibly to be located in Navan, could cost €650 million.

The M3 could cost at least €800m, and most likely more - possibly €1 billion.

Why not shelve the double-tolled motorway, build the hospital and still have plenty left over to improve the current roads and public transport system?

Plenty of red cents. Plenty of common sense.
