Tara campaigners court case deferred again
At a court hearing on Wednesday January 16th. in Navan District Court the case against the Tara Campaigners was deferred once again. The case was to be heard in full on Monday 21st. January but solicitor for the accused, Michael Finucane, asked for a deferral of the case as he and the defendants did not have full access to relevant documentation. The new date that has been set will be towards the end of May or the beginning of June.
Judge Brophy granting the deferral, refused the defence access to what has been described as "privileged documentation" - a reference to Operation Bedrock that was mentioned in a previous court hearing. The judge refused to disclose details of the document or the nature of the information that it contained.
Muireann Ní Bhrolcháin said: "This case will have dragged on for nearly a year by June. When the arrests took place, campaigners emphasised the fact that the EU were investigating the legality of construction after the discovery of the National Monument at Lismullin. Recently, 29 MEPs from all over Europe signed a letter asking that the Tara landscape should be preserved and that no further destruction should take place".
