Minister Gormley places Permanent Preservation Order
- on National Monument at Rath Lugh, Co. Meath

The Minister for the Environment John Gormley signed a permanent preservation order in relation to Rath Lugh on Friday March 7th. The preservation order relates the fort itself and a buffer zone in the region of 20 metres around the site. This zone abuts, but does not include, the land take of the proposed M3 road. No work has taken place within this zone.

It is the latest measure taken by the Minister in relation to Rath Lugh. Following concerns about the proximity of the road to Rath Lugh, the Minister last Autumn signed a temporary preservation order on Rath Lugh.

In addition last November, following concerns by activists about the potential of the road to destabilise the Esker on which the Rath is located, the Minister ordered an independent expert report.

Last month that report was completed and advised a number of precautionary measures be taken to ensure stability of the Esker. This report has been passed onto the NRA which has been asked to implement the measures.
